I am 41 years old, have played with an Atari 2600 since I was a child and have a lot of gaming experience. . At this point, I've never picked up a Pokemon game and never got caught up in the Pokemon Go hype. This is funny. I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I enjoy it. As a kid I was a hardcore D&D nerd (I was one of the Stranger Things kids) and knew all the characteristics of every creature in the Monster Handbook. This game speaks to the same part of me. Running around, collecting stuff, maxing out stats, analyzing battles, trying out strategies, etc. Since I haven't had any experience playing Pokemon games, I can't compare this to previous versions. I will say that most of the dialogue is aimed at young players (which is not surprising) and can be a little silly. I'll turn my brain off when that happens and go along with it. If you've never played Pokemon I can't guarantee this is the best game to start with, but it was easy for me to get started and I'm enjoying it.
