Review on Shure AONIC 3 Earbuds: Wired Sound Isolating, Clear Audio, Single Driver w/ 🎧 BassPort, Secure In-Ear Fit, Detachable Cable, Durable Quality, Apple & Android Compatible - White by Jeff Jordan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Beautiful sound with lots of details, but difficult to install

The Shure Aonic 3 Sound Isolating Headphones form the basis of the new Aonic line of headphones, but don't let that put you off. These are well-made, upgradeable, nice-sounding headphones, and with a massive selection of included ear tips, the Aonic 3 sits in the premium space. The Aonic 3 stands out as Shure's smallest headphone, and the MMCX connection system lets you swap out the cable for a Shure True Wireless Secure Fit Adapter or Bluetooth 5.0 Hi-Res communication cable. Despite all the references to Bluetooth in the instructions, this particular kit only has a 3.5mm cable from the factory and can be configured to work with either iOS or Android phones using a switch on the in-line remote. These headphones have a sensitivity of 108dB SPL at 1mW and a modest 26ohm impedance, which basically means your phone (and most other portable electronic devices) can play loud and clear audio without the need for a separate headphone amplifier is. My main issue with the Aonic 3 is that it takes a lot of fiddling to install. The combination of the pill-shaped body and the freely rotating MMCX connector results in the earphone lacking a well-defined structure. If you look at the photos, the headphone shell isn't really supported by anything other than the foam eartip and cable, and the MMCX connector allows for free rotation so you can bend the earhooks to your liking. desired shape, nothing prevents the headphone case from failing. So wearing the Aonic 3 becomes a two-step process of first attaching the earhook and then inserting the headphones, and even after several weeks of ownership the process is still a conscious effort. The Aonic 4 and 5 use a more traditional in-ear shape, so they shouldn't have that problem. I was initially skeptical about the Aonic 3's promise of amazing full-range sound from a single balanced armature, but I was pleasantly surprised. In my experience, many single balanced armature headphones are capable of nuanced and clear mids and highs, but bass tends to be thin and relatively weak, especially when compared to even cheap dynamic headphones. With the Aonic 3, Shure used a vented design for a balanced armature that extends bass response, and the results are surprisingly good in my opinion. These headphones are fairly balanced, with clear and accurate highs and mids that just can't be achieved with most dynamic headphones, and enough low-end output to make most music genres sound good as long as they don't lean too heavily on the bass . It's worth noting that Shure's focus on sound isolation means that with the right earbuds, these headphones can block outside noise almost as effectively as earbuds, so you don't need high volume levels to enjoy your music. , even if it's noisy outside or you're on a bus etc. The warning, of course, is that you need to be extra careful when walking around with them in your ears. If you have never used foam tips before, please note that they take time to get into the ear canal. You should squeeze them by rolling them with your fingertips before inserting them and then hold the earbuds in place for about 5-10 seconds to allow the foam to expand. Overall, I like the way the Aonic 3s sound, but the process of wearing them is a bit annoying. . I'm not entirely sure they're really worth the full MSRP of $199 as the Shure SE425 for the same price has a dual balanced armature and comes with both a 3.5mm cable and a BT2 -Wireless cable is supplied. These are my first Shure headphones so I'll be sure to check out their other products in the future. Notes: 1) They come with a 2-year warranty. , soft flexible sleeves (S, M, L), foam sleeves (Comply type) (S, M, L), yellow foam sleeves (one size), triple flange sleeves (one size) and a zippered carrying case.

Pros
  • SMOOTH, LOW SHAPE Designed for extended wear of the smallest headphones in the AONIC range;
Cons
  • Low repairability
