Review on DEWALT DCE530B Cordless Heat Tool by Kevin Mitchell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

1/4 performance of a cheap $10 plug

I don't really care about the overall temperature and just wish it had a stronger/faster fan. Even if it only put out 200-300F with a faster fan, it would make it much more enjoyable to use. Or max it out and if I only had 5-10 minutes of battery life I'd be happy. It generates very hot air, but you have to place it within an inch of what you want to heat and leave it there forever. At low temperatures, the heating coils generate less heat and the fan runs slower. The fan hardly accelerates at high speeds and gets very hot. I took everything apart to see if I could fit a better fan, but gave up. I'll keep using it, but an auto-on propane torch seems like a much better option. BENEFITS: Wireless Lockout Trigger Compact and easy to hold. CONS: WEAK FAN. painstakingly pricing - sorted out, and it shouldn't be more than a $30-40 tool at most. Super Basic Requires a smaller output adapter to concentrate fan power/heat in one spot. 1/4 times more powerful than my $10 Harbor Freight plug-in model.

Pros
  • Welding and soldering
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
