Damn Thing Calibration

You told me how to calibrate the damn thing. CDN did not help. Label says: Recalibration instructions are available at CDNkitchen.com. I beg to differ. The statement also implies that the thermometer has been calibrated. It doesn't seem to be. If you are following the recommended calibration step, be sure to place the wrench on the calibration nut before submerging the thermometer in water. You need to calibrate the thermometer for temperature. If you use a microwave, you should be aware that you can overheat the water. It can actually go above 212Β°F. So wait about 15 seconds for the water to reach its normal boiling point, or just do it the old fashioned way and boil it on the stove. A variation of this simple device has been in my family for generations, apparently uncalibrated. I wonder how many millions of women have taken inaccurate measurements all this time. I don't remember any similar thermometers marked "boil test". Progress The thermometer is used to measure the temperature range of meat. Not good for calibrating in an oven set at 350Β°C or with a glass of ice water. Hey, with all that boiled water sitting around, I might as well be cooking.
