We had a dark corner in our common room where a sconce worked well but didn't need to jut out too much from the wall - I chose it because the size seemed the right size to be right and I was very happy with it! It needs to be "hard" installed (wiring behind the wall and a wall mounted switch to control). It does NOT have an on/off knob or button and does NOT plug into an existing outlet. I'm grandma but I have some electrical skills - I was able to run a new electrical wire behind the wall from an existing outlet to a wall switch I installed and then to this light. I had no trouble installing it, but unless you have that kind of electrical knowledge, it's a job for a professional electrician. This lamp is delivered without bulbs. Wanting this part of the room to be as bright as possible, I separately purchased A19 sized LED bulbs, 1500 lumens (bright!), 15 watts, at 4000K (Kelvin), which is the cool shade of daylight . A lamp of this size works perfectly - these bulbs do not protrude past the top of the lampshade. Also, some OTHER lampshades are so dense that they block too much light from the lamps, but that is not the case with this lamp. He is big and beautiful. It's also a great neutral color that suits any room. The brushed nickel finish is the right combination of modern and stylish. I am very satisfied with this wall lamp and can only recommend it!
