Stop securing external sewers to your home!

it's great. Prevents clogged drains outside your home from destroying your furniture inside your home. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent blockages under your house. We have had one of these sewer safety valves to clean our front yard sewer line for about 20 years. A few weeks ago our downstairs toilet started gurgling when our washing machine poured a ton of water down the drain. I looked out the front window and saw a jet of water coming out of the sewer safety valve installed on our sewer cleaner. What a beautiful sight that was. What a relief (no pun intended). All of that water could have dumped in our powder room and migrated into the toilet and our carpeted area below. This is the cheapest form of canal flood insurance. I ordered this to install a second one on our second drain cleaning. Two are better than one. A word of caution. The sewer safety valve is 4.5" in diameter to fit the sewer cleaning hole, but is ordered as a 4" as per the description on amazon.com. If you order a 4" and receive a 3.5" diameter, you received the wrong one. Second warning. Homeowners typically unscrew the cap during a sewer cleaning and simply replace it in the hole without screwing it down. It's basically the same as a sewer safety valve. When the water returns, it pushes the cover off the drain cleaning hole and the water flows out freely. The problem is that animals and people bang the lids off the cleaning hole and the hole is left open, catching leaves, dirt and anything that can get into the hole including small animals and snakes. Debris, animals, and snakes that can get into the hole can result in a clogged sewer line and a large water bill. Also, imagine that you lift the lid of the toilet bowl and see the snake looking at you. This sewer safety valve has a spring that closes it after the accumulated water has been pushed out. worth your money. Shipping costs the same as shipping 4. Buy some extras. Give them to your neighbors for Christmas. A gift that passes on.
