Review on Incra BNDRUL12 12 Inch Precision Bend by Mike Bucher

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Accuracy at no extra cost.

I have a few Incra rules and I like them all. I bought this so I can accurately transfer the line from the face of the board to the edge etc without messing around with the square and skipping the mark. It does everything as advertised. The beginning of the rule begins with a half hole and a groove. I like this as it keeps my measurements in place. Since this is a 6" rule and I say I need a 7" measurement, I mark the 6" then line up the half hole or groove with the 6" mark, measure the inch and mark. The half hole keeps me from making a mistake while moving the rule to continue. I keep mine on a magnetic strip where it's easy to grab and stays like new. Does not rust as it is made of stainless steel. If you just need a ruler for rough marking use something else, but if you want a precise marking tool you can't go wrong with Incra. One thing I've found is that when using the standard 0.5 lead you get a lot of fractions, which is very frustrating. I bought a Super Hi-Polymer refill along with a 0.5 Side FX pencil. Made a big difference. HB is also quite dark without much pressure. I put a pencil in the ruler's hole and ran it over the oak and butt without breaking it. You start to get a feel for how much pressure to apply, but no matter how lightly I pressed, the regular lead always broke when it hit the grain. The side click pen allows me to advance the lead without moving my hand so I don't lose my mark and start over. Combine a ruler with a high polymer lead and you get precision at a reasonable price.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
