Clean & Cozy has been my favorite hamster bed for many years. I've never had any problems with mold, mites or any other problem. (By comparison, I bought two bags of Carefresh when I ran out of one and ended up treating my three rats for ticks!) It's cheap on sale, so I'll refill when it's available. Although I use it primarily on my dwarf hamsters, I have occasionally used it on my rats when I have had a sick or disabled rat that needed to be temporarily placed in an aquarium or taken to the vet. I use it on the bottom of a stretcher (small cat carrier) for easy cleaning during and after travel. If you've had rats and know what stress poop is, you understand. 🤢 In terms of odor control and absorption, it does its job very well. I have a 40 gallon tank for my gnomes so they can never get smelly, but when I used it on rats, removing the dirty bedding and replacing it every day, the tank stayed clean and ammonia free.
