Didn't know I bought a refurbished one!
I opened the box and immediately noticed that some dirty hands had used this product. hicks. It can be a little hard to see in the photos, but everything I've shown the sponge agrees. As for the ease of grabbing the sponge - excellent! The sharpening stone stays in the holder without any problems. Of course, it would be nice to get a fresh, clean product!
