I have to admit that I didn't read the instructions because if I did I would immediately return the item unused as it offers MINIMUM utility. The recommended use of this item is limited to the top rack of your dishwasher and the reality is you do not need a parcel shelf to use the top rack of your dishwasher. You can simply place your hat(s) on the top shelf of the dishwasher, start the cycle, remove it and air dry the hat. I bought this item to use in my washing machine so the fabric on my hats is really clean and not just rinsed in warm soapy water. I have a machine with a top loading center agitator, which again, in the product documentation, I was strongly discouraged from using for the sake of fairness. now i know why When I opened the machine after washing, the top of my drum was covered in black plastic that had detached from the basket during the spin cycle. The stand itself fell apart into several pieces. I had to (hard) clean the top of the drum to prevent the black plastic residue from soiling future loads of laundry. The guide also rules out using the rack in almost any type of washing machine, so you really have to limit it to dishwasher use, which as said is a waste of time, and dishwashers aren't generally known for their cross-cloth cleaning capabilities. .
