They are made of soft clay which makes them more prone to chipping. Like some other people, one of the shakers had a broken ear. There were no other issues with the items and I am happy with their appearance. minus the broken ear. They look exactly like the pictures and the review said they are not as big as I would like. I think they are the right size as they are neither too small nor too big. They seem to have the capacity of the sweet shakers you would probably buy at the store.
