My problem with the XM satellite

I chose this FM transmitter over all the others for one simple reason: the AUX jack. A little background story. I have an XM radio. I used it in my other car via the built in connection on my stereo. This car needed replacing and I chose the one I have now. Nice car but one problem: the aux jack didn't work. I didn't feel like replacing the factory radio, so I had to look for an alternative solution. I've been looking for a solution for several days. I drove without the XM and really missed Talk Radio. I finally stumbled across this article (I think it was featured in one of today's trades). A lightbulb went on in my head. It was a simple and easy solution that I could really work with. I wasn't sure if this would be a viable solution, but figured the worst case scenario would be having Bluetooth in my car for hands-free calling. I tried. A few days later I received the transmitter. Setup was pretty easy. I've already installed and wired the satellite dish so I don't have to spend too much time there. I simply plugged in the Otium, set up the FM radio and prepared to see if the XM would work. I plugged this unit into another cigarette lighter plug, connected one part to the transmitter, connected the other plug to the XM unit and waited. And BINGO, it worked. I returned to business. Like I said, the only real reason I got this was for the simplicity of the AUX. But Bluetooth is also very useful. I can talk without using my phone's speaker (which isn't great at all) and I love the ease of answering and ending calls. So why four stars? Well I don't like how it stays on when plugged in. That way I'll fight it every time I get out of the car and plug it back in when I get in (handy). Also, I can barely hear the little ringtone that plays when I get a call. I think it's good that it's not so intrusive when listening to the radio, but for me I could easily not hear it and miss the call. I also hear a howling sound when playing satellite radio. I may just have to play around with it as it may have come from the station I paired it with. So if it can be fixed, it doesn't matter. In fact, the other things I mentioned aren't necessarily a deal breaker, but more of a concern. Still, it's a great thing and I highly recommend it, especially if you're having the same problem I have of using an XM radio with no auxiliary jack.

Pros
  • has been solved. Everything is OK!
Cons
  • Good but not great
