I bought this because I live on the 2nd floor and have a balcony in my apartment. There are railings where my cat is skinny enough to walk over and a bit above so she can walk through to get onto the walkway. It had fallen off before and I didn't want it to happen again. I covered the whole balcony with it. I used zipties to hold them. The material is ok. It's like a mesh/mesh material, so it has little holes in it. My cat was smart enough to figure out that she could use the holes to climb up. She's too smart for us. However, if you're trying to protect a child I think this is a good option as the holes aren't big enough to fit fingers through, just cat claws. If your cat is as smart as mine, you might not want to take her to safety outside.
