Works great for a few weeks then volume goes LOWER

It seemed to work great for a few weeks but then suddenly the connection was gone when I had to turn on the source ALL THE WAY to get the speakers to it bring to play at a reasonable volume. I used this as part of a vinyl setup, with a clear landline about 12ft from my BT (Edifier)speakers. I received a second unit in which I thought the first one might be defective and it did the same. At the moment I'm using the more expensive option (TaoTronics), but so far so good.
