MUST WASH BEFORE USE! They don't absorb moisture until washed (I made that mistake when I first got them). After washing they work great and the design is very cute. There is a plastic backing, so if you have diggers or chewing tools, they will most likely destroy them. I use them under my water bottle and food plate to keep the main cage fleece cleaner for longer. Every day I switch to a clean one, shake out the dirty one and put it in a bucket. At the end of the week I fill a bucket with hot water and let them soak overnight, then wash them with cage wipes. Without them, I would have to change and wash the fleece of the cage twice as often - this saves time changing and washing the cage. I also use one in a carrier when we go to the vet. Note: I have chinchillas so the amount of urine they produce is much less than other animals like rabbits or guinea pigs.
