I bought the large, the size for the Syrian and it fits the Syrian perfectly. Our shy boy pissed in his nest during the day because he doesn't leave his nest during the day. I felt terrible every time I cleaned his nest and food store, every time I had to clean areas with urine. With this shelter I was able to put a small sandpit in one of the rooms so our hamster felt safe using the sandpit for his potty during the day. I raised this skin and he settled in very well and immediately started using the sandbox to write during the day. Yay that he didn't have to destroy his nest to clean it of contaminated urine! And it's easy for me to lift the lid so I can clean his sandbox. A++ for the thoughtful design of this shelter!
