No assembly required. It comes in one piece. All you have to do is arrange the branches inserted into the batteries and you're done. I have a larger one that I bought from another company a while back and it was very poor quality and very sloppy work on it. However, this one worked very well. The trunk and branches look a bit more realistic and once positioned they look full. I like it because it looks good both during the day with no lights on and at night with the lights on. The timer function is very convenient so you don't burn your batteries or worry about turning it off. Although it is a beautiful piece, I find it overpriced. Should have been in the 20's, not the 30's.
