This is certainly not a replacement for my water softener but a better addition to my water softener. I chose this model because of the bands over the traditional wires that should improve the volume of water that can be affected by the magnetic field. I have very hard water and use a fairly intense softening setting. Some areas of my home are bypassing the water softener (like the kitchen and drinking water supply) and this is causing very heavy scale build up in my kitchen. I installed this on the 1.5" PEX main that powers my entire house. The results are certainly not day and night in terms of the feeling of washing, but after a few weeks of vacation, which I recently returned from, the fumes remained in the toilets and sinks. an unusually soft and fluffy lime that was easy to remove compared to the hard lime that I usually have to remove. It also feeds decalcified water to my outdoor sprinkler, which shows a noticeably better spray pattern after a few months of use and water. My car wash stains have been reduced so it's nice that this can handle the crowd.
