These are great for storing and visually retrieving unstapled master copies that you may need for faxing, scanning, OCR, etc. Letter-size documents perform best when placed either lying flat: Letters horizontally or in the form of a legal-size hanging folder. Or 8.5 by 5.5 (half letter), then the nimble part can be folded down in suspension files, accordion organizers, etc. Not so good when letter-size documents are filed sideways in a file folder that's not much 8.5 inches wide.
