We ordered a short 16 bench tower to try on our chalkboard labels. Knowing it won't have the right condiments or labels as we are big fans of Indian and Mexican food, it would make more sense to buy empty jars and fill them with our own condiments. But the compact turret caught our attention. We were right not to use some of the spices but the price and more importantly the value even if we had thrown away all the spices was more than what we paid for it. I find it strange that the bay leaf in the bank was completely broken. Who would or want to do it? When using a bay leaf, it is placed in a sauce or gravy and fished out at the end. At least with everything we cook, this is our method. But enough of the spices. Here are some technical details of the showcase and container. I couldn't find all of these answers on the catalog page or in the questions, so I thought others might appreciate the information: The stainless steel frame is 5 inches square and 11 inches high. It revolves around the center on a plastic part with ball bearings. It rotates easily and is strong enough to deal with whatever spices you put in it. The unit will take up space on your 8 1/2" counter as the jars protrude slightly, but be aware that your counter or cabinet is cramped. The jars are 3 1/2" tall and 1 3/ 4" in diameter. They have plastic lids and plastic shaker inserts that can be removed if needed. Black plastic lids are softer plastic and not brittle like some spice jar lids. The reason for this is that you take the plastic shaker insert out and in the jar I twisted it as tight as I could (with big hands) and couldn't break the threads or crack the top. This is not common with spice jars of this size and price range. Whoever put the labels on never wears them applied in the same spot and they weren't centered.Because the label is gloss black like the top, you won't notice it from a few yards away unless it's far away (a lot e from them). We used Ziggyboard labels and an indelible marker, so we didn't care about the labels on the cans. We tried to remove them but they started splitting in half with glue and paper at the top and we threw away the black label part. At this point we considered soaking the tops in water overnight and cleaning them completely. We didn't do that, we just stuck the Ziggiboards over the existing stickers. Ziggyboard Spice Jar Labels are suitable for Stein jars, CS household jars and other style or brand jars and include 18 round labels, 18 rounded rectangular labels and a very fine white chalk marker. Since we wanted to use some spices, we made the labels with the permanent marker that comes with the Ziggyboard. It has both a top round label and a label on the side of the jar. Especially useful when opening two containers at the same time. Our set was the professional version, 1/2mm chalk marker. It is also available in a 1mm version and perfectly fits the jar and label size. I've added a photo so you can see how they look on the rack. We wrote the stickers while they were on the sheet they appeared on. While you can do this after placing them on the jar or lid, we think it's easier. The date code is printed on the sides of the glasses. We have covered this with the side panel writing in the Ziggyboard kit. Using table salt for measuring, we were able to put 20 level teaspoons in each glass. We also poured water and found they hold 3.6 fl oz or 105 ml of water. With tight lids, as shown in the photo, we soaked them in water for 5 minutes, both with and without the plastic shaker lid. We haven't had any leaks, which is an indication that these jars are airtight.
