Review on 🏞️ Enhance Stability on-the-go with Benro Adventure 3 Series Carbon Fiber Monopod (MAD38C) by Megan Evans

Love it but with one caveat

I've been using Benro "Travel Angel" for many years. While this is a great tripod - you can't beat it for size and strength - the twist-lock legs often caused me to cut myself - especially when working in uneven, rocky environments. This is not an attack on Benro. I have a beautiful Gitzo tripod that sits in the closet and doesn't get used, mainly for the same reason (twist lock legs (it's pretty heavy too)). Dream. It takes up a bit more space than the Travel Angel, but I'm not swearing by a mountainside - it's worth the trade-off. Why on earth have I only bought tripods with swivel legs for the last 20 years? The only reason I'm not giving this rig 5 stars is the ball head - mainly for two reasons: 1. It feels a bit horse-like than it should be. It has a "fuse" which makes the connections a bit finicky. It's great to have, but it takes some getting used to. (At least for me). To clarify number 2, this is a simple locking mechanism BUT don't forget to pull the small fuse when connecting. I thought I blocked it (in low light). A flick of the tripod and my 5dSR literally rolls on the floor (thankfully on a thick carpet). The same thing happened a second time and he fell to the ground in the mud (minimal cosmetic damage). All of this might be less of a problem if you're using the mount that comes with the ball head, though. Not me. I use a vertical mount and mount that allows me to quickly set up my tripod from my RapidStrap. If my cameras ever fell out of the hands of other thugs, I would blame my continued stupidity. But that was the first time. I hate this attitude? Absolutely not. i really love it Maybe safety is a "trend". I find it easy to get used to and I like it.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
