He may need some help with it, but it will be fun to build it together. I love gifting toys that are educational and engage the brain. These are similar to legos. And once it's put together you can use the remote or a phone/tablet to move it around. I like another reviewers suggestions to use the base (the remote controlled part) and build other things on top of it with legos. Great idea for getting kids to use their imaginations. This one's a winner.
