I had to go to Home Depot to buy a stainless steel bolt, nut and washers. It was decided to use a stainless steel nylon lock nut that is designed to withstand vibration. Yes, only 2 ft-lbs of torque is recommended to secure motorcycle windshield nuts with a drop of blue Loctite, but I settled on a lock nut. You can choose what is best for you! Looks great on my bike that needed an extra small compartment to store accessories.
