The problem, however, is that you have to keep the litter deep enough so that the urine doesn't seep into the grate and clog it up. So you're talking about A LOT of trash, which makes this vacuum HEAVY. So you have a big, heavy box full of 3 inches of clumping junk. The process (at least how I do it) is as follows. Remove lid, set aside. yes it is big too Raise the grate and let the dirt sift into the top pan. Pull the grill to one side. top tray, drop it into the grate so you can grab the empty tray and the grate you just threw in. Bring the whole mess back to where you keep the tray. Lower the lower grid/tray. from the pan you are still holding onto the wire rack/pan. Now throw in the empty pan. Now take a full grid/pan. Place the now full rack/pan in the now empty pan. cover back. Did I mention the machine is big? So the whole process takes up some space. Also, the grates feel a bit large. Sometimes there are little clumps of flakes that I STILL have to scoop up with my old shovel. Oh, and if you don't use a certain variety (which Revain won't let me add the name of), it will clog the grate. It should be such that it does not stick to the box. You've probably seen the ads. All in all, the whole process REALLY takes less time than scooping. Just be aware that you're going to be lifting this big thing and need a place to work.
