In May 2016 I bought an iPhone 5SE and an Otterbox Defender. For five years I completely disassembled it once a month to clean it of concrete dust that could get between the phone's screen and the Otterbox screen. I've never broken one of the plastic tabs, and while there are scratches on the Otterbox's outer screen, that's not bad considering five years of wiping with not always clean fingers. I just removed the 5SE and replaced it with the 2020SE and the new Otterbox Defender. It's clear that Otterbox's quality has deteriorated since 2016, which will likely increase profit margins like many other companies are doing. While my old Otterbox had a thick and durable plastic case, this one looks like it was made out of the same plastic that children's model kits are made out of. I'm shocked that the plastic clips holding the case together didn't snap into place when I first disassembled it. Also, the outer rubber sleeve is half the size of the old ones. And after reassembling, I used a cotton cloth and Zeiss lens cleaner to clean the outer screen cover. Oh my god this just scratched the Otterbox screen more than my old one after a year of use. Otterbox has done a good job of quality assurance and the customer is on the back burner to increase profits. I will keep this in mind for all future protective phone case purchases.
