Although my house is quite old, most things in it were in good condition before I moved into it. However, the large house means everything is oversized - 11 sinks, 5 toilets, multiple baths and showers. Combine all of this with hard water deposits from a municipal water source and you have a problem. With slightly leaking valves, I quickly get pretty heavy limescale stains. While the CLR has always been a dependable tool in my cleaning kit, when working on porcelain or pottery (at least in my house - YMMV), it has far outperformed itself. For more advanced tasks I was told to use Bar Keeper's Friend Powder. And how? Well the good news is that it works. Hard water stains/deposits are broken up and removed. Also, there is no surface damage when I use it on stone, porcelain, or ceramic (although I don't use it on anything else). The bad thing is that using this powder is like punishment. Essentially, you're grinding a soft anti-debris abrasive powder. and that can be quite a lot of work. Of course there are abrasive things you can use, but the trick is not to damage or destroy what you're cleaning. This product works and works well. highlighted.
