We just bought a house and the water we live in is about 24-25 grains/gallon and I had never heard of it until I saw this. After reading and seeing the positive reviews I decided to give it a try. I have to admit I cheated a bit that I had a plumber install a hybrid water heater anyway, along with other home plumbing repairs, so I asked them to install it for me. They raised the line, fed it through the main pipe which now rises and goes through the mud filter and then splits into the new water heater and the rest of the house. I knew as soon as we put this on that the previous buildup would come off the pipes so I figured it would be wise to install a sediment filter to catch it all, especially as I didn't want to clog my new water heater. This is one of the wisest investments we have made in our family and I am sure it will pay off many times over in the future. So glad we got it. Definitely recommend - even if you need an "honest" plumber to come out and install it for you. A few installers tried to sell me "their" water softening systems, but when I researched them they said they were good for <10 grains/gallon of hard water, and we have twice as much. No wonder you don't hear about them often, they make more money selling salt or citrus water softeners and other expensive cleaning options, many of which come with a monthly maintenance fee. I could go on and on but overall this was a good investment, especially if you live in a hard water area like us.
