When new it works as intended. The clear acrylic outer shell will chip and then break as the locking tab retaining springs rub and push against it from the inside. This is a technical error but it can be fixed by adding a thin pad of super glued plastic (e.g. soda pop plastic) in between the metal with a spring and an acrylic shell inside (to prevent the spring destroys the acrylic within 3 months of use) before the plastic breaks with normal use. This has happened to all six devices I've installed, so I'm pretty sure it's a common issue for all of them. several older children with special needs and this is the only solution I have found that works well without making any changes to the door or lock in the rental.
