While the ear cushions are comfortable, have a nice feel and block outside noise well, the sound quality and acoustics are disappointing. I've had the same MDR 7506 for about 20 years now and the sound quality (was) phenomenal. My old pads were sudsy and I wanted to replace them. From all the reviews these pads looked great so I was happy to pay a little more for decent pads. After the installation (which wasn't that easy) I immediately noticed that the sound quality and acoustics are completely different. The easiest way to describe how they sound now is to move the headphones about half an inch away from your head. Everything sounds dull, the bass has sagged and the highs sound too bright. Basically, like you hear cheap headphones. I can restore the original sound of the old headphones by applying quite a bit of pressure on the headphones against my head, leading me to believe that too much sound is being absorbed by the earcups or leaking through the gap between them. Pads and the speaker itself. I feel like I've ruined a great pair of earbuds and I would absolutely not recommend these earpads. If anyone has an idea on how to fix them, or a set of better ear pads, I'm open to suggestions.
