Those of you with 4Runners or 3rd Gen Tacomas know the pain of having a car that can easily drive 300,000 miles but whose antenna was obviously designed by an intern who did this do not do it. knows what he did. For those of you with broken antennas or antenna motors (and 3rd gen 4Runner owners, that's most of you), you have 3 options: - Replace it with a new power antenna ($$$ and annoying too ) - Replace with a Taco Whip antenna (bolt-on replacement, about $40-70 for parts) - Replace with generic 3rd party offering. I took this third way (I was in a hurry). This is *almost* perfect for runners; The result is a slight tilt of the antenna (which I agree), but it's not serious and not noticeable (see photo). Why should I dock a star? Two reasons: The mast itself seems weak. I'll probably replace it with something more solid; and- Why doesn't anyone make an antenna mount with the correct connector on the antenna? I spent about 5 minutes unscrewing and installing the old bracket and chased the exploded antenna cable around the cabin for about 25 minutes. If you have a late 90's Toyota product, this will likely work just fine.
