I was afraid I was too hasty with my purchase. I didn't read the reviews, just saw the size and material and decided to buy it as a cut out bookshelf for my apartment. My only regret is that I didn't buy a bigger one! Stable enough for books. Might stretch over time, but for the price it's more than satisfactory. You can put the doors on either side, but you need to make sure the back is where you want it when you assemble it. I opened up the bottom two rows on the opposite side of the divider and contains DVDs and game gear. The material is plastic stretched taut over a solid metal frame. Once assembled, this thing is NOT flimsy. I shook it, kicked it, and slapped it a few times - no sign of flexibility other than what you'd expect from a bookshelf.
