Scotch Brite Pads are a good alternative
Since my $300 LG LMHM2237ST Microwave didn't come with a filter, after 4 months of use this is an amazing find! Then I saw the price of the filter. Unacceptable. I decided to forgo this costly necessity and instead cut a 7" x 6" cleaning sponge and glued it in place, a smarter solution. I'm amazed LG doesn't include a FILTER! The microwave also has an outlet that should have a filter. A Scotchbrite seal was also used here. My house no longer smells of leftover food. Use shiny silver tape. Hard-to-remove tape can be replaced with any tape.
