The first time I turned on the nc I did it in the bathroom with the fan on. The low frequencies are gone, but the high-pitched boom remains. I also brushed my teeth in it and it felt strange that I couldn't hear the running water. I used them during a Buddhist ceremony when the drums were playing and the speakers were playing. It's noisy! Oh my god these NC headphones really got me through the ceremony. I usually roll up tissues and use them for earplugs, but with these glasses that's not necessary. I will say that after a few minutes I feel a little disoriented. It's just a weird feeling, I don't know how else to put it. As for the hiss, there is a small hiss, but it's really small. I didn't even know it was there until I reread the reviews on here. That's really very low. I would not recommend these mugs for exercise. The battery and compartment are too bulky. Sound Quality: These are not monitors, but they are good and reliable. I have a pair of Grado SR80's so I'm not comparing them to crap. A lot of reviews say that the high frequencies die off quickly and as a result, the high frequencies don't sound very good. I can't tell if there's a recession or not (if there is, it's barely noticeable). If you listen to rock or rap I don't think it would be that obvious or make a big difference. Right now I'm listening to 6'7' Lil Wayne with a pretty heavy bass. Bass response is present but doesn't sound as impressive as it does in my particular Sony headphones. It's like the sound is further away than my other cans, but that doesn't matter. Disabling NC didn't change anything. It still sounds far away. There is no monitor switch, so forget about this feature. The earbuds themselves don't seem to be the most comfortable. They let me know they were there and I've only been wearing them for about 30 minutes but my ears are starting to hurt a little. I don't know if that's related to the extra weight behind the riders or not. My particular Sony in-ear headphones have the exact same silicone eartips and I can wear them for hours without a problem. Disabling nc while listening increases the volume, but for me it's not significant. I only noticed this because other reviewers pointed it out. The headphones come with a nice black felt pouch and a plastic piece for you to wrap the glasses. The battery was not included. I have to say that these cans isolate noise better than my regular headphones. I also feel extra pressure on my eardrums when I put them on while there is almost no pressure with my MDRs. I wonder how well these cans will drown out the crying of the kids on the plane? heh
