We wanted to use tin cans to renovate the basement where we are converting the space into a separate living unit. But the code requires a 1-hour fireproof separation between living quarters. The alternatives are very expensive fireproof boxes around sealed jars, or a standard plastic ceiling box, but one that is fireproof for two hours, and one of these lights. They have the same appearance as traditional lights and are bright with even light distribution. The kit includes connectors to convert existing vessels as well as to connect to standard ceiling boxes. There's even a pigtail for lightbulb connections. Three screw lengths and hole patterns for both ceiling box sizes ensure very flexible installation. Note that like most ceiling lights, there are no mounting holes for a rectangular duplex jack. For us the perfect solution at a tenth of the cost of a conventional alternative.
