Review on πŸ”Œ 40 Watt Weller WLC100 Soldering Station by Daryl Fitch

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works very well, my first "real " soldering station. Great introduction to soldering!

I used to solder with cheap $5 soldering irons on eBay and Radioshack. So soldering remained a mystery to me because I used bad tools. The irons didn't heat up enough, I didn't have spare tips depending on the application, and solder stuck to the tips because they were poorly constructed and not kept clean (partially my fault). I was arguing between this model and another Weller model with an analog temperature controller. I liked that this is a well-known brand with a wide range of nozzles. I have already successfully completed several hobby-related projects. Including battery assembly and tapping of the car wiring. While I've never had temperature control, I don't seem to miss it as setting this unit to "4" seems to work well for most uses. It heats up, maybe not as fast as other devices I've read about, but within 2-3 minutes you're ready to go. Soldering is no longer a mystery! It involves getting enough heat, tinning the wires properly, keeping the tips clean and tinned, using a damp sponge, etc. If you have the right tool it's pretty easy and no longer a mystery to me! , it will probably accompany me for a long time. However, not being able to solder with any skill at this time, I would probably upgrade if given the opportunity. It has already paid for itself and I plan to continue using it regularly to fix things around the house, especially to fix rechargeable batteries (like drills, handheld vacuums, or bluetooth speakers). rather narrow "screwdriver" shape. I bought a set with three extra nozzles and adjusted the nozzle depending on how much heat I needed for my current job.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Trade in
