The replacement remote works immediately after installing the batteries, no setup required. I gave it 4 stars because it lacks a few features that the original has. No backlight to view keys in low light conditions. There's also no TV button to switch back to cable or TV broadcast mode without showing the source list. Also, the battery cover clip on the one I received doesn't rest against the remote body, so the raised, sharp edges can snag rough hands. None of these differences stop it from acting as a great backup remote.
