I use two of these devices in a grid and can only recommend it. I've upgraded from a bunch of old Unifi hotspots (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXT8R2O) that I liked, but it's time to upgrade to something with AC and 5- GHz support. I bought AC1750 against Unifi AC-Pro. The features and capabilities are pretty much comparable, especially for my use case. In the end, I settled on the AC1750 because it was cheaper ($70 vs. $140). The basic setting is very simple. Just plug it in, connect to the IP address and set SSID and PW. The mesh setup was a bit more confusing, but only because the documentation sucks. To set up the mesh, you either need to buy a controller box ($80) or download free software from TP-Link. I did it later because I always have it on my PC. This differs from more consumer-oriented mesh solutions that run through some sort of cloud service, but I don't want my Wi-Fi network connected to the corporate cloud (lots of privacy issues). My understanding is that the capabilities of the grid are independent of an active connection to the controller software, so once set up you can disable the software and forget about it. Leaving it enabled gives you a whole bunch of cool features that most people don't need or aren't interested in.
