Turn your rusty scrap metal into a "treasure " again

Bought to polish some really old rusty rulers, carpenter's squares etc that belonged to my dad. They were in such bad condition that you couldn't even read the numbers. My father died when I was young and I have some strange tools that belonged to him, but they have been (poorly) stored and very rusted for years. I bought a buffer for my drill press and used this polish. I had almost no hope that his old tools would be useful again, but to my great surprise they are very well polished and shiny now and everything is very legible. They are again totally viable and useful tools. Sure, they don't look new, but they do look 40 years younger. Too bad I didn't take any before and after pictures because the difference is really amazing. I'm glad I tried this polish. Thinking about it, I still have his carpenter's square, which I haven't touched. I'll take before and after photos and post them when they're done. In fact, I'll take a photo after I've polished half to show the difference. My advice. Get some drill bit polishing pads to use on heavily rusted items. DO NOT apply cream to the polishing pad. he will throw himself anywhere. what a mess. Yes. I did it. lol. Using your finger, apply a very thin coat to the metal (no more than 12 inches at a time) and then use the buffer wheel on it. Apply as many coats as needed, buff and buff again. Keep a few buffer pads handy as they tend to stick together pretty quickly on really dirty parts. Using a DeWalt 18v cordless drill, a polishing pad and a light coat of this product (which I applied 3 times in a thin coat directly to the metal) it took me just 7 minutes to turn a totally rusty, unreadable carpenter's square into a very well polished and readable square. What was considered garbage just a few days ago has now become a very useful tool. I am very happy that my father's old tools are so polished and ready to use.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • I don't really like it, it's ok
