The device works amazingly the moment you plug it in. You smell fresh air or clean air. The problem I have is that I can't get a new lightbulb to replace the one that's on to clean the air after it's gone out. When this light goes out, you must discard the entire block. We've become a discarded society and that's a shame. My only reluctance to recommend this product (I currently have three running) is that for the price it seems ridiculous that it lasts (probably) a year and then throws it away rather than being able to just change a lightbulb. . It seems like a planned strategy, but it still works amazingly while the lights are on. I would suggest a way to return the unit for credit towards the next one and at least there is a way for the manufacturer to reuse it and a way to save money next time. I use two of these on a boat (51ft Bluewater) and the boat smell is gone. Before that, the clothes and everything smelled like a boat, and other people noticed. I didn't except when I just walked in but now I never smell it and people comment how fresh it is inside when they come. I've ordered my next pair and can say they won't last more than a year if the bulb burns out. I hate throwing them away but the fresh air is worth it anyway so I pay and throw the old ones away. I run them 24 hours a day.
