They really work! Much better than plastic buckles
I use four of these straps for straps that hold the case on a small boat. I've tried plastic buckles again and again, but after just a few days in the sun, as soon as you tighten the strap, the cheap plastic breaks! But not this one! (Also, changing the buckle requires setting up the sewing machine and then cleaning it up, as the boat cover is always a bit dirty, so be sure to grab the metal covers and save yourself LOTS of rework!)
