This line laser was purchased to compensate for height differences in my apartment building. The line laser emits green light, so DO NOT look directly at the light unless you are using appropriate tinted glasses. The unit was mounted on a high quality camera tripod that uses a different mount than the standard survey tripod. The most difficult problem was detecting the laser beam at long range. The difference between the position of the bar in the "locked" position and in the unlocked position is significant. Trying to locate the green laser at +100ft was very difficult with the included green target. A supplied green target is fine once positioned, however, very small changes in the horizontal direction on the tripod mount will result in large changes in the target's position. It took multiple passes between the line laser and the target to find the laser spot using a larger reflective target. Another problem is setting up the target on the grading rod. The green target provided is for us on magnetic metal, not for use on aluminum ground rods. There are no inexpensive fasteners on the ground rod for the green target, so a makeshift clamp connection was used. This is not ideal for making multiple measurements quickly. There are several manufacturers that supply a green laser target mounted on a ground rod, but the prices are beyond the reach of the lay public. There is no green target mounted on the ground rod to indicate that no target is included.
