The bag has a drawstring at the top so you can close it. You have to carry it in your hand or on your forearm as there is no shoulder strap. I can easily fold my wallet, cell phone, sunscreen, 12 ounce water bottle, bikini and cape neatly and roll into a bag. It's not big enough for a beach towel. All summer I got nothing but compliments for this bag. The only complaint I had was when I went to my mother's house. Her eyes lit up when she saw him and she really wanted it. I had to order a second one for her, but I'll be happy to make her happy.
