Review on PORTER CABLE 2 Inch Adhesive Backed Sanding Disc - 740000801 by Joseph Morris

I bought this to line the soles of several hand planes (#4, 5 and 7). They weren't in the best shape so I needed the aggressiveness of 80 grit so I wouldn't have to work with them forever. As expected, this paper cuts quickly. This took quite a while and helped brush the metal dust off the paper leaving the sand fully exposed. Others were impressed with the durability. I found it good, but not as good as wet/dry greased paper, hence the 4 stars for this item. There were 4 stars for the adhesion because it actually stuck too well, some were torn rather than torn off. White spirit quickly enough removes the remnants of paper and glue. The price is impressive. Comparable finer grit rolls are almost twice as expensive as this one. I thought I might need a second roll to complete the planes, but that should do it. $13 for a 3 flat abrasive (especially number 7 which is almost 2 feet long) is very expensive.
