Very good defender!

This is great, love it but read this. I live in an old rental house and when I moved in I checked the wiring and found that the three outlets in my computer room (albeit with modern three-prong plugs) were not actually grounded. I plugged in my own grounded outlet, assuming the other outlets were just two wired outlets and couldn't be grounded. A little later I was in the basement and noticed a junction box with grounding cables hanging down. I connected them all together. and the outlets in my room were then properly grounded. I tested two of the three and assumed the other was fine. After installing the protector I hate installing these things, lining up the holes on the back and getting the screws to work. Once you find them, they should put a tab on each end so the two screws on each end can hold them in place. So I installed it and the ground light didn't come on. The instructions said to send it back and I returned to Revain ready to fill out a refund when I decided to check out the outlet myself. It had old two wires going to a three wire outlet! I had to use a solid extension cord from one of the grounded outlets to plug in the Tripp lite and now it works perfectly. The moral is: never assume an outlet is grounded because it has a three-prong outlet, even if the other outlets in the room are grounded. Simple soil testers are inexpensive and can save you a lot of time and effort. I'm a qualified electrician and while the things I've done have been pretty basic, I never do them myself. I blame myself for not bothering to test that third container and it almost got me to that Problem encountered to return a perfect product. Two hours of my life is now gone forever, well frankly I spent an hour looking for the damn screws to connect the surge protector which was supposed to be "plug and play". woe to me But a great defender!
