I have a really nice Yamaha A-S700 (100W RMS). However, it didn't particularly affect my B&W 705 S2. I decided to upgrade to the A-S1200 and it lights them up despite being 10 watts less. It really boosted the bass, improved the soundstage and captured the finest nuances of the high frequencies. I believe that the ring power supply, huge capacitors and high current transistors are changing the world. The phono stage really impressed me. I used Schittmani with the A-S700 and it improved the sound quite a bit. The phono stage of the A-S1200 is absolutely superior to Schittmani, especially on 180g vinyl. It's a warm sounding amp that reminds me of my old days and it's beautiful. The side panels are finished in a nice black and the retro volume display is really cool. Correction 1: I would like to add that the preamp drives the subwoofer very well. To the best of our knowledge and belief, Yamaha makes no claims in this regard. I simply set the subwoofer so that the preamp has full control over it and only deep bass comes through. I just adjust the subwoofer volume and it goes so well with everything that you don't realize I'm using a subwoofer.
