High level of service - looks solid actually quite thin

I bought this on Wirecutter's recommendation and when I first used it it was great. But the second time I used it, there was black residue on the ice. I put it in a coffee mug with hot tap water to rinse it off and warm it up for ice cream. (I've seen it in ice cream shops, seemed intuitive). But things got worse. I made sure we didn't put it in the dishwasher, which we didn't. I noticed on their website that it also said it couldn't stand temperatures above 140Β°. I contacted a company that was very responsive and friendly. They told me that aluminum oxidation could be caused by too much chlorine in our water or the dish soap we use. We use Dawn dish soap (regular) and our water has always seemed fine. We have already attempted to hand wash it and if that is not enough then I find the product too difficult to use. They let me know that the scoop wasn't permanently damaged, that with a little elbow work I could remove the residue and use it again. So far I haven't had any success with it. Everything in our kitchen that can't be washed in the dishwasher is already on strike, and if it can't be washed in hot water or detergent, we're just too brittle. Especially for something that looks so strong. When you look at it, you might think it's bulletproof, so I'm sorry if you haven't concluded that it has such a long list of features. From the first time everything worked fine, the shape and feel seems great. But I need something less sensitive. If everyone in your house is reminding you not to wash dishes in the dishwasher, or using the wrong soap, or heating it too hot, or using water with too much chlorine, then this is the scoop for you.
