We bought a house last fall that has three bedrooms upstairs. After seeing our astronomical electric bills now that it’s warming up, we decided to set our upstairs thermostat to 80 degrees and it STILL runs all. day. long. This particular window is in the worst possible place so that the sun heats the room all day every day (we live in Alabama) and the ceiling itself comes to a point so I don’t have the option to put blackout curtains over the entire window. After researching our options for custom shades, etc., I found these and was incredibly skeptical after reading the mixed reviews but for a tiny fraction of the price, why not give it a shot?While I’m not a novice DIYer, I’d never installed any type of window tinting so I was a little bit intimidated about the process. When the roll arrived, it had an imprint that obviously happened before it was shipped since it arrived wrapped in bubble wrap really well (picture attached). I thought about sending it back but I was so fed up with the heat upstairs that I just decided to continue on and hoped for the best. I cut the film about an inch over on all sides measured just in case and followed the enclosed instructions for installation.I’m a perfectionist and was freaking out when I still had tiny bubbles and scratches after installation but read a few reviews stating they’d disappear later, I decided to give it a shot. I obviously ran out before finishing the last window but it gave me the opportunity to share the comparison! My husband works in insurance and has a FLIR app that measures thermal performance and JUST WOW. The picture speaks for itself!There was a 23.4 DEGREE difference in the windows with and without the film and it has been an absolute game changer. The upstairs floor has now been averaging 76 degrees instead of 82 and the HVAC rarely has to cut on just to keep up during an Alabama summer. So thankful for this product! Don’t be intimidated by the installation and just go for it!FYI- I ordered the Black Silver 35.4x13.1 to begin with and obviously didn’t measure my windows beforehand, learn from my laziness. Off to order enough for the rest of our house!
