I was looking for a way to prevent external drives connected to my computer from working continuously while my computer was on. I use several large external drives to store videos and other large files that I don't want to lose. Also, I always back up these files on a second drive in case the original drive fails (and lately more and more of the latest external drives (3-5TB capacity) I buy seem to only last a couple of months and then no more Work for some reason I've had 3 relatively recent outages in the last year) And I just don't trust cloud storage options what we're seeing in this scary technology world and its current hackable state. . So I wanted to easily turn on external devices when I needed them to protect them and extend their lifespan. This USB hub lets you power on and off any connected USB device you want to access, and it feels solid, well-designed, and 3.0-ready. So I hope that my past problems with this device will be reduced!
