I have these anchored awnings that go down to the ground to protect our chickens from the hot midday sun. They seem so strong that I'm not worried about them at all. The sail will break before they break off the bottom. And if the sail doesn't snap I'm pretty sure it will blow the fence wall off before they're off the ground. I recommend running some sort of straight pole through the loop to give you something to hold onto to screw into the ground. I used the largest screwdriver I had, but something like a short length of pipe or a large tent pole would probably work as well.
