Hard is the first word that comes to mind when I lay out a shovel. Big size and amazing scoop. Part of the pickaxe pierced the 6 inch rock like butter. It is less sharp than blunt. The jagged part doesn't look sharp, but some sort of coating is applied to it and sawing through the root removes it, revealing sharper points. However, the shovel was strong enough to set up a pickaxe and pry the shovel down to break the root, although like any other tool I wouldn't recommend doing this too often. Fits perfectly in almost every pocket in your survival bag.
